Shakira’s lawyers accused the Treasury requested medical information and going to hairdressers and beauty centers, thereby violating her privacy.

Shakira and the Public Treasury of Spain already have quite a history. The tax authorities of that country have been accusing her of not paying her taxes for several months.

But now, the singer presented a defense before a court in Spain, where she is accused of defrauding the Treasury for 14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014.

Authorities say Shakira pretended not to live in Spain during that time.

Now, the public ministry requests eight years and two months in prison and the payment of a fine of 23.7 million euros to the singer.

The Prosecutor’s Office points out that, between those years, Shakira spent  183 days or more in Spain, the time established by Spanish law for a person to be a tax resident.

But Shakira did not stand idly by and accused the Spanish tax authorities of violating her privacy during the investigations into this case.

The singer’s lawyers accuse that during the investigation, Treasury inspectors requested medical information and went to hairdressers and beauty centers where the singer went to prove her residence in Spain.

Shakira argued in her writing that she did not live in Spain stably until 2015, so she should not pay her taxes in that country.

He stressed that since 2011, he has paid 104 million euros in taxes worldwide, 90 of them in Spain.

She also said that her professional commitments and philanthropic work led her to reside in various countries worldwide until she settled in Barcelona at the end of 2014, where she started a family with former soccer player Gerard Piqué.
