The United States immigration law firms that advise Google and Apple have advised employees who require a visa stamp to re-enter the US not to travel because visa processing times are longer than usual, Business Insider reported.
According to the Business Insider, it has seen memos from ‘BAL Immigration Law (representing Google)’ and ‘Fragomen, which represents Apple.’
“With recent developments and the potential for unpredictable, long-lasting delays in returning to the United States, employees without a valid H-1B visa stamp should consider postponing any travel abroad,” the Fragomen memo said, according to The Chronicle.
Embassies are now prioritizing thoroughly vetting each visa case above all else,” a State Department spokesperson told Business Insider.
Salon also reports that “hundreds” of Indian professionals who returned to India in December to renew their U.S. work visas have had their appointments at the U.S. embassy canceled or rescheduled because of newly implemented requirements that require scrubbing and vetting of travel applicants’ social media accounts.
Few Tech companies contacted Google and Apple for comment. Both, along with other big tech employers, issued similar warnings in September when the White House said it would begin requiring an additional $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications.
